Case Study: Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska – Boosting Engagement through Peer-to-Peer Fundraising
Background
The Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska (BIA-NE) faced challenges with their annual giving efforts. While they were successful in securing government and foundation grants, they struggled to achieve full participation from both board members and employees in their giving initiatives. Recognizing the need for a new strategy, they sought a solution to improve internal engagement and expand their fundraising approach.
Choosing SNS
Having previously worked with Strawhecker Nonprofit Services (SNS) on grant writing, BIA-NE trusted their expertise. When SNS introduced the idea of a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign, the team was intrigued and eager to try this innovative approach.
“Thank you for having such a wonderful team! Nani is so great to work with. :)”
–Paula Dodds, Director of Operations, Brain Injury Alliance of Nebraska
The Outcome
With guidance from Nani Reed of SNS, BIA-NE launched its first peer-to-peer fundraising event. The strategy proved successful—several board and staff members actively participated, and the organization achieved its fundraising goal for the annual appeal.
Ongoing Impact
Although BIA-NE met its initial goal, maintaining momentum proved challenging in subsequent years due to changes in board composition and a large donation that reduced board-driven fundraising motivation. Despite these hurdles, the organization values its continued partnership with SNS, especially Nani’s energy and ability to inspire and connect with stakeholders.
This collaboration highlighted the importance of strategic fundraising approaches and set a foundation for future efforts in enhancing donor engagement.
